The Olympics Effect: Paris-US Flights See 8.8% Year-On-Year Boost

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are coming to a close this evening with the final ceremony. Held from July 26 to August 11, 2024, the summer games significantly boosted air travel, drawing spectators from across the globe to Paris, France.

Flights to Paris have seen a marked increase in demand. In particular, routes between Paris and the United States experienced an 8.8% year-on-year rise, as reported by aviation analytics company Cirium for August 2024.

According to Cirium, nine airlines currently operate flights between Paris and U.S. destinations. The market is evenly divided between American and French carriers, with four airlines from each country servicing these routes.

In addition to the top five U.S. destinations, Air France also offers flights to Denver (DEN), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Newark (EWR), Detroit (DTW), Miami (MIA), Houston (IAH), Chicago (ORD), Minneapolis (MSP), Phoenix (PHX), Seattle (SEA), San Francisco (SFO), and Raleigh–Durham (RDU).

Other French carriers operate fewer flights and serve fewer U.S. destinations from Paris airports. La Compagnie, for instance, offers flights to just one U.S. destination, flying from Paris Orly Airport (ORY) to New York Newark (EWR). This month, the airline has scheduled 25 flights on this route, according to Cirium.

Air Tahiti Nui, operating out of Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), will conduct 31 flights to two U.S. destinations: Los Angeles (LAX) and Seattle (SEA). Meanwhile, French Bee, also operating from ORY airport, has 105 scheduled flights to four U.S. destinations: Miami (MIA), Newark (EWR), San Francisco (SFO), and Los Angeles (LAX).
